Three Day Monk: I Liked It Better

Three Day Monk is the pseudonym for Bedfordshire based multi-instrumentalist & songwriter, Tristan Nelson. Often coined as ‘Alternative/Cinematic Rock’, influences derive from artists over a myriad of genres; Ben Howard, Fantastic Negrito, Hiatus Kaiyote & Incubus. Refusing to stay limited by one genre, Three Day Monk’s music is recognisable by narrative-driven, poetic lyrics and unconventional, misleading arrangements/instrumentation (shakuhachi flutes & modulated drums on ‘Osaka’, heavy piano and strings reminiscent to Shostakovich fan-favourite, ‘I wish you were dead’ etc).

After releasing 3 genre-hopping seasonal inspired EPs/Singles since September 2020, Three Day Monk returns with his approach to nostalgia and the indie genre in new single, ‘I Liked It Better’ recorded by False Heads’ debut producer, Matty Moon – landing 21st June 2021. As with previous releases, the single follows a narrative structure and is inspired by “a world fixated on the consumption of nostalgia and the rose-tinted perception of better times”. ‘I Liked It Better’ marks the artists first dip into the indie genre with him painting over his own distinctive, unconventional creative flair.
